The sun blazed overhead though little warmth was felt from it at the northern tip of the world. It would continue to burn brightly through the night that would not come. Darkness would not take over this evening, as this was always the case once per sun-round.
Cats who had traveled from all five of the northern lands approached the pool at the center of all the lands. The pool was known to the as the Goddess Pool and the chilled waters lapped at their sore paws.
Waiting for the appropriate moment, there was no cue but instinct that guided the many furry felines. They all cried out:
“Meow! Meow!”
The ancient phrase had been said since the beginning of time. And yet, it was of simple meaning; me-ow or I hurt. It was a cry to Goddess above of the woes they encountered in life, as well as ap rayer to Her that things would change and they would be blessed with a better sun-round to come.
The yowling continued until darkness overcame the sky and stars twinkled above. Goddess would acknowledge that she heard the prayers and grace the cats with a show of greens and purples dancing far above their heads.
And then came a special ceremony. One in which each high priestess would trade the kittens she gave birth to for she-kittens who would follow in her own pawsteps.
It was law that a priestess must have at least one blue eye, and that a high priestess ought have both eyes blue. True, this incapacitated their hearing abilities, but it enabled them to hear the words of Goddess with much more clarity.
Goddess was everything.
